You probably have not spoken to very many Americans then or at least not those of us who went to school when geography was still an important subject. Wales is southwest of Liverpool where my grandfather was born.

No great surprise. People in Wales don't give a five star sh*te about the USA either.
If you look at a map of the UK it is the bit half way up the west side. First you have a long thin bit sticking down at 45 degrees (Corwall and Devon) then a square bit with two sticky out portions to the west. The top one has an island at the end (Anglesey in English). This squarish bit is Wales and its where the Celts went too in the seventh century when the Anglo Saxons (English) invaded from the East..

Wales - one of the few regions of ancient Britain NEVER to have been conquered, not by the romans, english or Vogons.
Part of a larger, but now largely forgotten realm which encompassed most of what is now Cornwall and large parts of Devon.
Home to king Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table, along with Tintagel (allegedly, but not proven to be, the site of Camelot), Glastonbury and the Isle of Avalon.
Welsh Women are indisputably the most stunningly attractive in the world.
Welsh men are, ipso facto, the luckiest in the world.
All Welsh people have incredibly superior intellects and it is a proven scientific fact that the most backward Welsh child achieves an IQ equivalent to the whole of the british parliament before the age of six years, having surpassed the IQ of the president of the USA whilst still in the womb.
AND - Stonehenge was built by the Welsh.
Where is it?
Right next to the Welsh Sea.

Tell them to watch British Big Brother!!! The guy who came second did a great job on good publicity for Wales.
Where do they think Catherine Zeta Jones comes from?
It's sad that Wales doesn't have a higher profile in the world. I'm half Irish and half Italian and live in London - and I think Wales is great!
I used to go there for holidays as a child - and everyone should see the Brecon Beacons - beautiful.
Wales is also famous for beautiful singing and Rugby!
Good question!

North of Cornwall, south of Birkenhead, west of Birmingham and east of Dublin. There be the land of Yaki-dar, Leeks, Rugby Players and sheep lovers. A conquered people ruled over by a kindly nieghbour who claims anything good as British and everything that is not as Welsh. They Brew some very good beers, spell evreything with loads of 'L's' in. A very beautiful country of mountains and coastlines my particular favourite being Conwy.
