Sony? Nintendo? Xbox? Stay w/PC (Microsoft XP)? Want something with longevity, reliability, ease of use, and large catalog of games (hopefully more family friendly options than a "HALO" etc.). We currently have no existing investment in "home entertainment" other than basic PC games or DVD movies, so options are hopefully open for us. Where on the web can I find good comparisons, reviews or other evaluations? Any supporting info on why you recommend what you do (cost, ease of use, versatility, game library, etc.) would add to the value of your answer!!

Nintendo has largest number of games that target younger children and family-friendly titles (dancing, music etc) The Gamecube is a good system and has excellent titles like the Super Mario and Zelda series, but it's been out for several years now. The Nintendo Wii is their next-generation system (not even released yet, a hot item this holiday season), so I'd recommend you consider that platform, from a longevity standpoint.

Generally, the Xbox (and 360) system caters to an older crowd- teens and adult gamers. So you get will be plenty of HALO, Call of Duty, Madden Football, Fight Night Boxing, and Project Gotham Racing types of games.

The PS2 should not be talked about in terms of current-gen systems, it's the elder statesman of game consoles. It has the biggest game library by far (largely because of the original Playstation games it supports) but it's the oldest hardware platform by a mile. It's older than the original Xbox, which has already been replaced by the Xbox 360. The PS3, Wii and 360 are your new, next-generation console choices.

Considering thier ages...PC would be the best bet, XBOX really caters to games with great graphics and gore. PS2 is a little better because I think it has more options for the younger crowd. I personally favor gamecube...it has a GREAT selection of games for their age...some are hard and some are eaasy. I also recently got the nintendo DS lite...It's great also, but still new and slightly expensive. UNfortunately, all three home consoles have or will release new systems so I don't know what to tell you about that. Howeverm that does make the origional system cheaper. If you want to save money, you could always buy them each a gameboy advance...this way they won;t fight over the system. Finally, things like harry potter and other games do come to pc so investing in another system would be a great idea. Hope I helped!

I own all three systems but Im an XBOX fan so I would say xbox but the kids are a little young for most of the xbox titles. Gamecube doesnt have as big a game library as ps2 or xbox but is more kid friendly gamewise. ps2 lands somewhere in the center but still has a lot of mature titles. Go with a gamecube.

I'd go with the gamecube. Lots of variety in games. Very kid-friendly (c'mon now they made a hello kitty game for it even!) haha. But my little brothers (6 & 11) love playing the gamecube. Plus it's cheaper then some of the new systems coming out.

If your new to video games, I'd say go with the Nintendo Gamecube. I have an Xbox, Ps2, and Gamecube, and i think Gamecube is the easiest to use, and it has the most kid friendly games out there.

Ask your kids, im sure your boy played some sort of game system at a friends house in the past.

Good luck!

Gamecube - more for kids
Xbox - More for Adults, and the controllers are fricking huge (the default ones) so it might be hard for the smaller kids to use them.
PS2 - All around, my pick.
