The Upper Peninsula (UP) of Michigan is the top part. It is a world apart from life in Detroit. It is "attached" only by a very long bridge called Mackinac Bridge which is where Lake Michigan and Lake Huron meet. The UP is connected on the west to Wisconsin. The UP is isolated and relatively undeveloped and is a beautiful area to vacation.

The upper peninsula (or, as they say here in Michigan, "Da U.P., eh?) People from the upper peninsula are called "Yoopers" and people from the lower peninsula are called "Trolls" (because we're from "under the bridge...")
