2006-08-23 00:56:54 · 10 answers · asked by Alisha 1 in Family & Relationships Marriage & Divorce

I've been dating him for about 4 months and weve known each other for about 5 years. I think maybe the reason he asked me over the net is becasue i live about three and a half hours away form him since i went to college.....im not sure though, he never said anything about this before and we just got dont fighting over something stupid when he did ask me, what he did was, he went to one of those make-you-own-banner sites and did it and it said blah blah blah will you marry me? (im not going to disclose my real name on here so i put "blah" lol) and he sent me the code for it and told me to put it on my myspace site, and when i looked at my profile...there it was....i was sort of suprised but i dunno, i always thought that id someone was really serious about this sort of thing then they would tell you in person or at least on the phone, not saying that i dont believe him, i just wanted to see what your opinions are, because I DONT KNOW, ive never dealt with this sort of thing, THANK YOU !

legit??? how??? a marriage proposal isn't a legally binding document at any time... if someone proposes, and you are happy with it, accept... but make sure you've met... :D

they can be. In fact just recently a young sailor actually married his fiance over the internet using a cell phone and a web cam. He is currently deployed and wanted to tie the knot immediatly I did not even know that was legaly a wedding, but it is. So if the intention is sincere and the love is real than yes but I would strongly warn against anyone you meet over the net unless you already know them in person.

nothing is legitimate until you tie the knot. But why would you accept a marriage proposal over the internet. If this man is serious, he would propose in person...like normal people do.

Yes they are.. Check the success stories on the matrimonial websites. Most websites are paid ones .so chances that someone would spend money on a fake identity are less. I know many people who got married through matrimonial websites and are happily married. the good websites usually offers safegaurds against fake / cheaters.

You can propose how ever you want to. There are no set laws in how you do it or that you even have to do it. You can get married without a proposal. Some people have a mutual understanding that they want to get married.

you can accept any proposal in any media, but it is not legally binding (as in any engagement.)

but, if someone does it and hasn't met you face to face, you should run in the opposite direction.

[edit] in my opinion, it's his last ditch attempt to save the relationship because it came after a fight. That's always a bad sign too.

I think a marriage proposal should be a little more personal than that. But,everyone has there own way of doing things.Look into your heart. If you believe its o.k. it doesnt matter what other people think.Good luck God bless:O)

your question is alittle vague but for one thing i wouldn't put a hold lot of stock in a proposal til he's on his knee with the ring, second if you havent met this guy be careful alot of scams go on in here

No!!! Are you being serious? You do not ask people to marry you on the computer.
