I'm an American who just came back from thie Philippines about a month ago and I can honestly say, it's a very charming country. There's a lot of beautiful places and fun things to do. Because of the exchange rate of currency, everything is nice and cheap! That's what I liked most. I could do all the things there that I can't really afford here. The people are generally quite friendly. I never met a rude person, but then again, it could be related to my money. I was never robbed or cheated or anything like that. Everyone there was great!
Makati is a wonderful, lively city. Lots of great hotels, food and drink. I'm very fond of Red Horse beer and most ethnic dishes. Also, I'd like to add that Filippino menudo tastes better than Mexican menudo.
There are lots of other nice places too, like Baguio or Mactan Island-- which is full of great resorts to spoil yourself. Shopping was fun too. However, here are somethings I did not like about the Philippines:
-The flooded streets during the storms. Thinking of all the nasty things in the water makes me feel very unclean.
- The dirty air in Manila is dangerous. The humidity and unclean air is bad for the skin-- not to mention the lungs. I only went there for the historical tourist spots and super mall, then I left!
- Taxi cabs cut off emergency vehicles.
- Tropical Hut Burgers are disgusting! Just terrible. Burger Machine may have been cheaper, but it was way better!
Anyway, the Philippines are a great place to visit. Save some money, take a trip, make some new friends and live like a king!

the philippines has gotten a bad rap from bad publicity over the past few years. however, it is far from what the media has shown on t.v. the majority (i'd say 85%) of the people there are christian. tagalog is their main language, but english is also frequently used. filipinos are known for their hospitality and if you are lucky enough to visit the country, you can almost compare the scenery and people to those in hawaii. all in all, you must also remember that although it is considered a third world nation, you can easy find yourself comfortable in the city and the several resorts they have there.

Philippines is one of the most amazing places I've ever been, great people, great nature and one of the better places to travel because is very economic for foreigns, I leave my heart there and I hope to go back soon to see my loving again, WOW Philippines, great nation but it has a lot of work to do to make it a better place, but I'm sure if Filipinos and Filipinas works hard they are going to make it.

The Filipinas and Filipinos are generally very nice, very welcoming, and wonderful to be around.
Physically they are shorter than Americans, the average woman is between 5' and 5'4" tall. The average man is between about 5'5" and 5'8" tall. Most are slender. They have beautiful skin tones, looking like a wonderful summer tan. Their eyes are dark and I can fall into her eyes for hours.. oops.. now the pesonal side is coming out.
Most people are Catholic. With many being very devout followers.
If you have the opportunity to be with a Filipino family for a few days, don't miss the opportunity, family is STRONG. Extremetly STRONG. The love, caring, concern, and helping within Filipino Families is tremendous to see, and to be a part of.
Even though I could not speak to many of my Fiancee's family because of language barriers, the experience of being with them, singing with them, dancing with them, eating with them, laughing with them is times I treasure everyday.
I have never felt so welcomed in my life.

The Philippines (Filipino: Pilipinas), officially the Republic of the Philippines (Republika ng Pilipinas), is an island nation located in the Malay archipelago in Southeast Asia, with Manila as its capital. It comprises 7,107 islands called the Philippine Archipelago, with a total land area of approximately 300,000 square kilometers or 116,000 square miles.
The people of the Philippines are called Filipinos. Most Filipinos are descended from the indigenous Austronesian-speaking peoples, but there are also some Filipinos of mixed descent, known as mestizos, through intermarriage with the Chinese, Spanish or other nationalities.
The country was named "Las Islas Felipinas," after King Philip II of Spain. A Spanish colonial rule through Mexico began in 1565 and lasted for about three centuries until the Philippine Revolution of 1896. The United States gained possession of the Philippines after the Spanish-American War in 1898 and ruled the country for about five decades. Philippine culture has many affinities with the West. Roman Catholicism is the predominant religion, and English is an official language, along with Tagalog.
The Philippines today is a significant source of migrant workers; there are over 8 million overseas Filipinos and their remittances exceed $12 billion a year, an amount that forms a significant portion of the Philippines' gross national product.
