Just look at their icon(s) by their username and see if it's lit-up (online) or in the dark (offline).

Try (for yahoo )...www.buddyspy.com and follow the instructions, ive been using it for ages, it will tell you whos online even if they are hiding on invisable....tho at the mo i think there is a problem with it cos mine hasnt worked for a few days....but im sure they will fix it ..:)
