in general the layout of magistrates court is as follow:
magistrates (3 off) sit facing the whole room
clerk to the court sits in front of magistrates (also facing room)
solicitors/lawyers sit facing magistrates
court usher sits/stands to the side
prisoner sits/stands on other side (sometimes in a secure area depending upon whether the have been remanded or bailed)
journerlists sit near the back of the room - facing magistrates
observers sit right at back of the room - facing magistrates,

however have no idea how layout is for crown court. hope this helps a bit

Have you never watched a court room drama, such as Ally Mcbeal or Judge Judy? Judge on a stage, facing defendant and accuser, jury on the side, people in the middle, media at the back with some variations on the theme.
