I cannot answer for the costs in Japan. In the USA the average cost varies between $4,000.00 to $6000.00 per month. This includes the living space and meals. Medicine is a separate bill. This price will vary according to the particular placement, the location of the assisted living community and the number of staff who have to be involved in the persons day to day care. It is quite expensive, but is a lot better and safer placement than many so called "nursing homes," which are generally overcrowded and extremely understaffed so that the person does not get the individual care that they may need. I am not entirely sure but I doubt there are many places like that in Japan. The elderly are revered there, not packed away and forgotten.
