The values they represent are young (but not as young as say, "scion"), modern, smart, well-made, efficient, understated.

Implication: A VW driver could afford an Audi or a BMW but chooses 'value' instead.

They distinguish themselves through a clear visual design that affects everything from cars to the advertising fonts.

They charge a premium for this by claiming (perhaps correctly) that their promises are true and that you will be more 'satisfied' with their product.

But the objectives are still the same: Sell more units.
