The university of life. First you have to graduate from the school of hard knocks.
I'd recommend against working toward film/tv. I work for a BIG commercial broadcasting / production company in the UK, and every year we're swamped with graduates competing for VERY few jobs. I'd recommend looking toward new-media. Something along the lines of pod-casts short internet movies etc etc. If you succeed in this field it's quite easy to adapt your skills to the broadcast media and you'll have some good experience and skills to back you up.

you can check out the UK and world university league tables by subject on The Times educational supplement website www.thes.co.uk.

I signed up for a 14 day free trial when I was looking and copied the league tables on to a spreadsheet for future reference. It will probably say Oxford, Cambridge, Warwick etc.

As a rule though, the northern cities are a bit cheaper for accommodation and I hear St Martins College is great for arts and film but not sure where it ranks in the league tables. Good luck.

Warwick, Durham, Liverpool, Nottingham, LSE and UCL are all good universities, University of Liverpool is especially good. The best thing to do when picking a university is to look at the location too, some places may be "the best", but you are there from 3 years+ make sure the location is good too!!

And ps - stay away from Nottingham if you want to be safe, it's a scary place at times!!

Leeds is pretty good!

Night life and student community is amazing - enough pubs, clubs and bars for every night of the year. Leeds Uni and met are pretty close together and are both near th city centre.

Don't go to Hull if you are looking for a safe place, it has the highest crime rate in the UK!
