Have you cleaned out your temp files or history, this will slow your PC down if there are to many.Go to a program called [cleanup] you have different settings.I use it all the time and a one called C cleaner they shift history and temp files you don't want and there free to download.

There are many reasons. Windows XP will give the maximum speed for internet. Network Virus can slow down the internet as it sends its own packets. If your PC is older than pentium then also the internet will be slow. If your are sharing the internet connection then also it would slow down. Isolate all these problems one by one and then you will attain the speen

Download softwares chose a port and close it with its maximum download limit. Such as to you, if you can download at 20k rate maximum, Limewire acts as it is downloading at 20k even if it doesn't. So, when downloading, you cannot do much with internet, unless you have a high connection and can divide between download and leisure

Don't know but it does that on mine too. Limewire runs really fast but webpages run slow if you are surfing at the same time

Sounds like you have something "phoning home" in the background of your PC.
Check for spyware. Run both Ad-aware (http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaware/) and Skybot (http://www.safer-networking.org/) to remove any spyware. Run both as one may caught something the other missing. Then go to microsoft.com and download Defender to protect against future infections. All are free

You answered your own question...Limewire...We have both the programs to install and uninstall it, because of this very problem...Whenever we would close out Limewire, it would keep opening itself back up somehow...hope this helps!

Your Internet connection is so slow because of your modem. You need to buy a faster modem. Make sure the faster modem you buy is an Internal Modem.

Try removing the temporary internet folder(you can do this by clicking on the "tools"menu then "internet options"then delet files,delete cookies and delete history) also delete the temp folder which is located in " c:/windows/temp"
