Here are some simple tips to cut onion without tears

1. Put the unpeeled onion in the freezer and leave it there for about ten minutes.

2. Remove the onion from the freezer and peel it. The onion can now be sliced, chopped, or minced without tears.

apart from this you can

- Try holding a wooden spoon or a piece of bread between your teeth while cutting. This significantly reduces the irritation to the eyes.

- You can also avoid tears simply by chewing a piece of gum while you are cutting the onion.

- Safety goggles or big sunglasses may be worn to prevent more acid gas from the onion from reaching your eyes and irritating them.

- Put a fan behind you and towards the onions to blow the sulfur gases away from you.

hope this will help bye

You can either light a candle and have it burning nearby where you are cutting the onion or hold the onion under cold water while you peel it. Did you know that if you leave the bottom root on the onion until you have it entirely peeled and cut up you won't cry?

I wear an avon industries A10 military respirator when chopping onions, it works a treat. £15 from the army surplus store, it always causes a laugh when preparing a curry. I was told of a way to chop onions by a certain cutting method once and it did work but I can't remember it, ask an asian chef.

Leave the roots on until last. Cut the onion in half first (top to bottom) and then slice down and through but make sure you leave the roots intact. Once all your cuts are made, chop of the root end.

You know your onion consumption per day or week so keep that amount in the bottom compartment of your fridge and as you use them replace them and you will not cry over an onion again.

Fill your basin with cold clean water, submerge the onion, hold it carefully and cut it in there, need to be extra carefull with the knife though. People say under a running tap but I think it's a pain and more difficult. Try them both and see what you think!!

When you start to cut the onion take two matches (thin piece of wood or cardboard tipped with combustible chemical; ignites with friction) and you hold them with your lips like you do with the cigarette, but you leave out the the head ( combustible chemical), and you hold it like that untill you finish cuttin the onions. It works.

I am enjoying answering this one. OK for about the fourth time. This works trust me! Put a lighted candle next to your chopping board. The flame absorbs the chemical that causes the tears.
