By law it is not prohibited. A law like this would be highly discriminatory. Having said that we must realize that an openly gay person would never stand a chance against the establishment and run for president of any country. It would be a too polarizing issue that no opponents would NOT seize upon. Especially here in the U.S. where going negative on your opponent is a sport and apparently the only way of conducting a campaign. If a gay person would run for president the opponent could sodomize infants on TV and would still win as long as the sodomist would claim that he is doing God's work.

Apparently there is not any law forbidding it, provided laws were established when people never dared spaeak openly about homosexuality and it was a taboo.
However, I can see no reason why a homosexual could not be a President of a country; do you know how many Senators and MP's in Europe are homos but do not admit it? What if some of them was elected as President?
If his/her homosexuality did not interfere with right management I can see no harm...

It's completely possible. Unfortuantely it wouldn't be for a long time. People who like the same sex or both are just as intelligent and capable of doing the same job, this country is just a little behind the times. Most of the other countries would be more acceptable I'd say. I mean really what can someone say about gay or bi or whatever being wrong? They just say it's a sin and wrong and throw a bible in your face......but what trouble have they really brought? None, maybe a few suicides due to people not accepting them.....

i dont think he would be president if he outwardly states that he is homosexual , if he is , just as in the military , he would not be eligible for the title. at least thats how it is from what ive read. but in the constitution he just has to be a citizen of the country and resident of the country for i think 25 years or more. anything other than the residency and citizenship should not be counted really but some do take it into consideration since there are many homophobes out there still who would not vote for him.
and actually in history there were homosexual rulers , just not in the 20th century , and it wasnt the whole continent i think , just parts of it , such as alexander the great and a few other leaders of around that same time.

Yes, a gay person can be a president provided that they meet the requirements (35 or older, natural born citizen and have lived here for 14 years or whatever it is) and they get elected. No, I'm not a homophobe so it would not bother me to have a gay president. In fact, it might be better to have someone who could be compassionate instead of so hateful like what we have now.

In the United States, there is no law forbidding gays from being elected to any office. I believe people in the US would not vote for a gay man, if they knew he was gay at the time of the election. It would bother me to have a gay man as President. Homosexuality is an aberration. I want a solid, conservative, capable, normal person as my President.

Well the president of usa would be commander of the armed forces and apparently with the "don't ask; don't tell" policy I would say no...because someone would "out" him for sure...the media loves that sort of thing. So I would sadly say no...could not be president of united states if gay.

It's not forbidden. It could conceivably happen in a European country in the near future. It will be a long time before it happens in the USA. Americans are far more conservative than Europeans.

Why of course they could! There is plenty of gay political figures...although I never think one could be head of state because I think people are too bigoted to vote them in.
