By knowing the very thing that you are passionate about and to succeed in it. You may also want to surround yourself with positive friends who constantly motivates one another.

If you have low self-esteem, best to keep away from negative people, they will only bring you further down.

Oh, and you may want to join some clubs of your interest? That way you can be further motivated.

All the best!

Ask yourself: What do I value, what do I want to be remembered for, what would my friends and family say about me at my funneral... start with the end in mind. From this create what you stand for and what you will do and how you will get there. Review your goals daily. Keep in mind motivation doesn't last...that's why you have to do it daily... (I think Zig Ziglar said that)... some good books: Purposeful drivin life (if religious), The 7 habits of highly effective people, most of the books by Zig Ziglar, etc. etc. Best of luck.

Listen to loud music, and drive yourself wild..Be always an optimist and think about the rewards, and overal satisfaction for doing a task. If you have a negative thought, throw it out, they never do anything for you. Keep a reminder of your goals, maybe a picture on the wall.. Keep yourself focused, and tell yourself I'm going to be disciplined, and make sure you do whatever you told yourself your going to do.. If you force yourself to do work on it, everyday, then it will become natural...

Make goals and do whatever you can to acheive them. Even if they are the smallest ones it doesnt matter as long as it motivates you to become the person you want to be.

make a 5 year plan. i found it works really well. just scribble somethings down on a post it note and stick it somewhere visible. when you feel bored or just can't be bothered, look at it and think " i'll never do THAT in 5 years if i don't pull my finger out my back side!"
