A millipede is basically harmless. They eat vegetable matter and will not hurt you. A centipede on the other hand has the ability to sting as a method of defense. They also eat other insects! Personally that is what I figure you are looking for, not the number of legs (which by the way, isn't really all that correct.)

I giant millipede will eat an entire adult in about 26 minutes, however it would take 1000 centipedes to do that in the same time.
of course some will try to tell you that these bugs are harmless, but I would not be so sure.

Just to point out : A millipede doesn't have a thousand legs. Highest number ever discovered was about 750.
