Sound waves travel at whatever the speed of sound is. They need a medium which is mostly air. When the air itself is moving it affects the speed of the waves. In the direction of movement of air the speed of air gets added to the speed of sound. In the opposite direction the speed of air gets subtracted and the balance is the speed of the waves.

definite. the sound waves go back and forth in the air as a strong medium. If the mass of air is shifting the waves go back and forth through the air because it strikes. therefore the cost of the sound is further to or subtracted from the cost of the air depending upon which direction the sound is vacationing relative to the wind vector.. even with the undeniable fact that the frequency does no longer replace perceptibly because the air circulate is oftentimes a lot slower than the cost of sound.it really is strictly why one is able to search for suggestion from with someone in a short paced automobile. The air in the motorized vehicle is shifting with the motorized vehicle and so are the sound waves.

When sound is moving against the wind, it is refracted in the opposite direction -- upwards. In fact, if you were hovering above the ground in an area upwind from a sound source, you would hear the sound quite clearly, because of the reflection of waves in your direction.

Go outside with a friend on a very windy day.
Try to talk to each other from a hundred feet away.
Then you decide.
