I removed my wisdom tooth and was given Amoxyllin as an anti biotic. I was instructed to take 2, 3 times a day. On the 2nd day of taking it i couldn't sleep at all with heart palpatations and which resulted in insomnia. I had no reason to be stressed or have a reaction like that. Could it be due to that antibiotic?

Yes and stop using it right away and go to your doctor. If you can't get an appointment go to the hospital right away.

That happened to me with a penicillin (sulpha drug for a bladder infection.) and it was an allergic reaction. I started to get weak and my heart would race and I got sicker and sicker everytime I took it.

Normal side effects of penicillin (antibiotics) are nausea, diarrhea and other minor things like that.

There's quite a few antibiotics that will cause palpitations. It doesn't sound like an allergic reaction - you would know the difference. Most antibiotics (unless otherwise prescribed) should be taken with food and lots of water. Try taking your medication after meals and decrease your soda intake until you're done taking it.

for antibiotics, the common side effects are things like diarrhea. and allergy reaction is things like rashes.

anyway, if you think that its something not right just stop taking all medication and consult you doctor. and remember to bring all medication you take recently with you when you consult him.

for my personal opinion, i dont think antibiotics will cause this. because if you remove your wisdom tooth, i believe you also take other medication besides antibiotics.

sounds more like a panic attack rather than the penycillin

Make sure you are not allergic to penycillin which is what amoxycillin is - it is not an antibiotic - if you are allergic - stop taking and see your GP

The side effects should be on the bottle / box - ask your pharmacist as they will be able to help you more than anyone on here

Never heard of amoxycyllin causing insomnia; but, you never know. Tell you doc and take the antibiotic unless he says stop.

There shouldn't be any unless you're allergic. I myself am violently allergic to amoxyc.....you know that drug. My symptoms are rash and shortness of breath, but it probably is different for everyone.
