Excel interprets data as a number or as a sting of characters, usually by it's context.

You have a situation where numbers are really a string (not to have math performed)

The easiest way is to add an apostrophe to the first character to signal that the rest of the characters are a string, The apostrophe will not display.

You could also use the menu Format->cells->general and select "text" to convert existing strings by selecting them first

Dragging the cell out can help. If it is not a number you have to do equations with, you can also define the cell as a text field and it will display the number as typed and not do the scientific notation (which is what that 8.888+10 thing is).
