Don't tell me about the poor old Arabs. That does not give them the right to commit acts of terrorism.

I understand from one of the answers that my question is racist. The question itself remains valid.

Someone objects to Israel closing checkpoints, preventing Arabs getting to their jobs. The checkpoints are between the State of Israel, and the Palestinian Authority. Any state is entitled to close its borders.
But Israel has to be holier than the Pope.

Racism - are terrorists a race as well as a pest?

This question isn't just about in the present, it arises from thousands of years ago. You have to also see it from the Arabs' point of view, where they think that Palestine belongs to them.

However, Israel have to put up with suicide bombings every day of the year. There would be outrage if something like that happened in Britain or the US. I don't they are expected to put up with them, they have for long enough. It is just quite difficult for them with about seven extremely hostile countries surrounding them!

There is a book called Exodus, by Leon Uris. It is about the establishment of the Israeli state. It gives a really good history about the whole middle east conflict. This problem is not just the Arabs fault but also Britain's and also the US.

And I agree, there should never be any reason to condone terrorism. We live in a world of democracy, which does appear to be the fairest way to live, and things can be dealt with civilly, and not in acts of war. Of course, my country and the US are not exactly great examples of this, but they should not be an example for everyone else. The Arabs should just accept that Israel is here to stay. Remember, the Jews are the ones who made that country a country, before them it was just a pathetic desert, with middle aged villages, not able to work the poor soil. The Jews did a good job and deserve their country I think.

They don't. They should'n't have to and they will not. They have some important, strong allies.

One of the important things to remmber about our faith is that we tend to remember the past, remember our history. Jews have lived in friction for centuries. Justly so or, more often unjustly so. The fact is that Israel will not keep her head down and mind its own business and allow anymore walking over. For this they have a right to assert that they have no cruel, invasional or ulterior motives. Simply, stand up for themselves and live by the same rules as the majority of the world.

Stop singleing out and observe all the other wars over the last 50 years. Why is this different?

As a terrorist nation created by terrorising the native population to leave, it owes its existence to terrorising its neighbours into submission.

People who are defending their land from enemy occupation (as in the case of French during WW2) are normally called resistance fighters.

Wasn't Menachem Begin part of a terrorist gang wanted by the british for dressing up as arabs and blowing up the King David hotel (Killing 91 people) and stringing up two british soldiers?......

True, most countries don't. But when the UK was being targeted by IRA bombs, the British government didn't wall off Catholic communities within mainland Britain, invade the Kerry peninsula or fire missiles at Dublin. It's a question of proportionate response, a concept the Israeli government doesn't seem to grasp.

You think Israel "put(s) up" with terrorists? In case you don't know they:

1.put suspects in jail, often without charges and often for indeterminate sentences
2.bulldoze the homes of suspects' families, sometimes even their cousins
3.change boundaries and property lines unilaterally, putting up fences to take or divide the land of "terrorists", often taking their water rights
4. build separation fences or walls between territories
5. prevent Arabs from going through checkpoints to get to their jobs or homes
6. kidnap and even remotely execute suspected terrorist leaders
7. conduct all out wars when they deem it necessary

This is just a short list, typed on the fly, but they've used many more methods. Yet you say they're putting up with terrorists. What new solution would you propose, and would this be a final solution?

I do agree that no other country really puts up with frequent attacks on its people. The US reacted to one attack(albeit a grand scale one) with a swift war on two middle-eastern countries.
By extension, Israel has the right to carry out the actions it deems neccesary to protect its people. As opposed to the US, Israel is not separated from its enemies by huge water bodies. Rather they are all around them, making it even more vulnerable.

The senior Israeli army members are certainly terrorists , so I agree with the questioner on this. Get rid of them. The reason they are terrorists is that they terrorise innocent women and kill their children with no remorse. They confiscated their land first In 1967 , and have terrorised the Palestinians ever since.
I think they say in Israel , ''an eye for an eye'' so the answer to the second part of your question is...sadly .YES ! (and I am a pacifist)

The state of Israel was created by terrorism -

The Haganah, Stern Gang and Irgun were all terrorist organisations who attacked and then stole the land occupied by the indigenous Palastinians. And you now wonder why the Arab nations attack you???
