Windows XP should rarely crash, unless it has viruses or bad or faulty drivers/hardware.
Best way to avoid computer problems is never hook it to the Internet.
Secondly if Internet use is required. try not to download any programs you are not 100% sure about, do not visit any sites that contain inappropriate material. A Good anti-virus is also a good idea use Trend or Norton. Keep up to date with all security patches and updates from Microsoft (Unless using Linux/Unix then your fine security wise) Maintain a medium-high security setting with pop-up disabled when browsing the Internet.
I hope this helps.

Avoiding crashes and slow performance requires good proactive measures.
Use these tips to keep your computer clean of undesirables and running fast:
Install and run anti-virus/anti-spyware software.
Defrag regularly and also use Disk clean-up.
Regularly delete cookies, Internet files and History.
Don't have too many windows open at the same time.
Have a back-up system to save your important files.

Perform a weekly housekeeping and maintenace, clear out old internet files & folders you don't need, then do a defrag of your hard drive. You will be surprised what a difference carrying out these few simple task can make to your compute.
If you don't know how to perform these tasks go to your start menu/accessories/system tools and you will find all you need to know there. Good luck!

It sounds like you could do with a good antivirus and antispyware scan. Just do a search for free antivirus/antispyware products in google, plus defrag your hard drive i.e. click on Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Disk Defragmenter.

Adequate ram, and computer maintenance. Regular defrag disk clean and virus checks. A program such Ad-Aware is very helpful to get rid of tracking cookies and adware. A program to check registry is nice.

Dachshund software- Anticrash, Hare(pc accelerator), Zoom(startup and shutdown accelerator) and Battery Doubler all are really good. Download them from the Dachshund website, the install it all of it. you can use all the software approx. 20 times each before you have to purchase it. if you don't want to purchase it, uninstall and install again. Or search online for a code.
