Many programs use the email address book to send thousands of emails to the people you know. These emails usually have attachments and once you click on the attachment the virus starts working. Some viruses destroy your files in general, others attack system files only.
A hack is when someone targets your specific computer, user name, or something else, but just you are attacked not others. The hacker can get in and do almost anything to your computer. In my opionion, hacking is vandalism or rape of the Internet world.
