Hi
Don't worry about food in Mumbai. Even in the middle of the night you will get good quality food to eat if you so desire.
Most of the famous food chains are here. SO, if you do not want to try the local delicacies(I would recommend that you do try them) you can always tuck into a sandwich at Subway or a Pizza at Pizza Hut or even KFC.
ALWAYS ask for bottled water in any restaurant you go to. Foreign visitors have been know to fall ill after having our local water(though we do digest it without any hassles)
If you wish to try out the local dishes go to reputed restaurant and try our pav bhaji, dosas, batata wadas, samosas.... the list is endless.
Non vegetarian food is freely available but you will not find pork and beef on all menus. They are served in certain restaurants though.

The first two poster's have never been to Mumbai or maybe even to India. Or they might have come during the British rule.
Mumbai is a great city, serving practically all types of food from any and all places in the world. There are restuarants in every street. You name it and you can get it, in whatever budget you want. The seafood it almost all the restaurant's is something that you should tryout. Spicy food's are the local favourite. Try avoiding the street food since it's not built for the weak stomach's. Just ask the staff at whichever hotel you'r staying and they will help you out. And yes, there are a few McDonald's outlet's here, but they do not serve beef. Though Beef and Pork is served in a few selective restaurant's.
Enjoy you'r stay Mumbai.

If you ever been to New York... Well Mumbai has that pace. People are extremely helpful provided you ask the right ones. Most people understand english so communication is not a problem. Food... You name it and you would get it. Mumbai has McDonalds... But they dont serve beef or pork as most Indians dont eat it. But you do get chicken burgers. There are Subways at most places. You should try out Indian food. Its amazing. It is Spicy and hot but its worth a try.
Have fun.. you will love Mumbai....
