actually it's a lot easier then you think...
there are many places.. like library, buses, coffee shops, malls.
if you have a new job u can meet new people there.
take courses like i don't know Spanish language or guitar lessons and meet a lot of people there

Well there are bars but you can try getting involved with volunteer groups in your city. If you have a hobby (say reading) you can join a club like a book reading club or something and make friends that way.
It's harder when you're older but not impossible.
You can also meet people through work.

At work, through other friends, online, anywhere you spend a lot of time. There's always joining a club or taking a class, finding people with common interests is a great start.

Most people make friends at work once they are out of school. Try to participate in activities that your coworkers may invite you to.
Also coffee houses are nice places to find people who share the same love for coffee as you.
If you don't like coffee, then the next place to head to is the bookstire. Most bookstores have coffee places, I am sure you will find people there who have the same taste in literature as you.

Well, I have friends your age and frankly they do normal things like us all. They hang out at the bars, gyms, coffee shops, graduate school, work. Looks to me like you need to get a new set for friends dude, just dump those druggies, maybe even think about going to another city just for that.

I've met new people at work and during my holidays. But I have to say, making friends is easier at school.

Perhaps at a new job?
Or in school?
Congratulations on your choices, its important to find and environment that will support your choices. Good starting points are schools or jobs.

Probably mostly at work. That's where I've met all of the newer friends I've had.
