Could it be miscarriage? How do I know if I should have a d & c? My husband seems to think the procedure is not necessary because he has never heard of it. Basically he doesn't want to pay for any of the cost of the procedure.

Unless there is a known cause for hematuria, it must be thoroughly evaluated. (regardless of the procedure cost). The purpose of thorough evaluation is to be certain that there is not a serious reason causing the hematuria. The routine proper evaluation for someone with hematuria includes an Intravenous Pyelogram (IVP) and cystoscopy.

Causes of Hematuria

The number of potential causes for hematuria are many. Happily, most of the causes do not represent serious or life threatening disease. Some of the common, less serious reasons for hematuria include kidney stones and urinary tract infections. The most common reason for hematuria in a man 50 years of age or older is benign prostate enlargement. A small percentage of the population normally has microscopic hemuturia with no apparent cause. Voiding problems, trauma, and excessive exercise ("jogger's hematuria") may also cause blood in the urine.

More serious reasons for hematuria include bladder tumors, kidney tumors, and kidney obstruction. It is reasons like these which make it necessary to properly and thoroughly evaluate all hematuria.

I don't want to scare you, just listing the causes of the condition. Please see your doctor asap, bleeding while urinating is not a normal condition, sometimes it does happen and no cause is found. I have had an IVP for hematuria when I was a child and there was no cause.

Even if this isn't hematuria and is from your pregnancy getting to a doctor is really important. My sister was spotting during her 4th or 5th month and went to the ER, she ended up needing a Rhogram shot because of the blood type difference between her and her boyfriend. If she had not, she could have lost her baby. Please let us know if you are ok.

If you are not having any cramping it is unlikely that you are having a miscarriage. If you just have blood when you pee then it is posiible that you have an urinary tract infection. Other symptoms of an UTI include pressure in the pelvic area and frequent need to urinate and painful urination. Either way you should go to the doctor to make sure the baby is okay and most of the time these urinary tract infections require antibiotics. If you have the symptoms of an UTI you should drink plenty of water to help try to flush it out as well as cranberry juice. But you really should go to the doctor because if it is a miscarriag that is the only person who could tell you if you need a d&c. And if you are having a miscarriage that doesn't neccesarily mean you will have to get a d&c, most of the time doctors agree there isn't any need for a d&c. Good luck with everything.

You shouldn't be bleeding this early in your pregnancy. It could be that your uterus is shedding the last of the lining of your uterus or it's the beginning stages of a miscarriage. Call your OBGYN. You will NEED a D&C if you have a miscarriage no matter what your husband seems to think is unnecessary. What a jackass that he is concerned more about the money than the welfare of yours and your baby's health.

You NEED to get to a doctor about this not Yahoo. If you are having a miscarriage then a D&C is necessary to clean your uterus out.

Are you bleeding from your 'baby hole'? If there is not any clots or bright red blood, then it is not a miscarriage. Implantation bleeding takes places during this stage of pregnancy in most woman - including me!
