Only one real arguement I know of. The separation of church and state. Religious symbols in a public space represents potentially an advocation. Since the government is separate it cannot advocate any particular religion. If it could display all of them in an equal manner as well as some sort of display for the lack of a religion it could be done but considering the number and different types of religion and lack there of there isn't a realistic way to do so. Either equal representation or none.

That is the arguement. Personal opinion is that they shouldn't be banned. Public space should represent the public. If 60% of the public is christian why not allow for some christian depictions. However, the demographics change from time to time and if the locals votes to change what is on display they should be allowed to as well. In this the government shouldn't make the distinction, the public should.

They should be banned from public owned places, separation of church and state. Other public places should be allowed to choose for themselves. The reason is that not all people believe in the same thing and if you put up, a star of David, then you will have to put up every other religious symbol to make it fair to everyone, including such things as 666 for satanic followers. Putting up a satanic symbol would just anger most people and would cause a huge controversy. It should not be the governments job to decide which religion is right. When a government decides that one religion is better than another and makes that religion the state religion it creates problems, bigotry, and causes nothing but pain and suffering.

I think the problem is that the religions, at least most renown ones , are so penetrated into the social functions of human being, and when ever you go, your religion is with you. But generally if we consider the religion an individual belief, as I also subscribe myself to this idea, it will be fair to remove that symbols from the public, where they are maybe offensive to other religions.

If religious symbols are allowed on public property it gives the impression that religion or sect is endorsed or the faith of choice by that agency, they can also be offensive to other faiths, they have no place on public grounds.

Why should they be? Isnt' that what this country was founded on? Wasn't that why our forefathers came to this country? In search of religious freedom? All the american history I've been taught suggest this. So are the atheists going to allow history to be rewritten just because God is talked about in the history books?

No. It's like a special code we Christians have for when you walk in to a courthouse or an institute of learning. It means "Hey, If you're here and not a Cristian, you're pretty much screwed." It helps everyone to stay closer to Jesus and praise Him in everything we do.
