It will never be fixed of its ills because modern leaders have led us down the very same path. Bush has only accelerated that trip. Doesn't matter if a Democrat or Republican lead us. They all lead us down the same path to global communitarianism. The Patriot Act, Homeland Security, Genetically Engineered Foods, manufactured limited troop strength, and an economy base on fiat money that is fast losing its value (confidence), are collectively like the noose being put silently over our head while we are sleeping. The Brave New World is coming soon. They will control us with food. The Global governance will be totalitarian. Our value will be assessed by our value to the community. All that is necessary now is an international economic collapse. GE foods will create a monopoly that forces us to them for the food source. Easy to dismiss all this as the ranting of a conspiratist. However, the clock is ticking on the ignorant and the perceptive. We have sold our birthright for gold. We have screwed future generations. Like sheep we have a vague idea about all this, but still think it is between the good and the bad, between the Democrats and the Republicans. Most of us don't know that both parties are corrupt. We still hold to the partisan illusion. It is quite a shock when your savior turns out to be the devil.

We haven't recovered from the Reagan administration yet and the Bush administration is worse than the Reagan administration so probably not in my lifetime, but eventually yes America will recover. There is a silver lining to the Bush administration, the conservative movement which has been growing song Reagan is finally losing ground, we can thank Bush and his idiotic policies for finally staring to change things in the right direction.

I think all American presidents have to be blamed. All are trying to take full control of other countries` problems and leave a mess out of it afterwards. So, I think the mess only becomes more and more as time goes by as yet another president bites to this dust of control.

The government of USA will collapse under the pressure of foreign debt, and they will for the next several decades receive aid from other countries such as Canada and EU nations to keep a facade of government and social security running.
This is to prevent a flood of immigrants to the already "burdened" nations in Europe.
Seriously though, it really depends on what the people next in line do with the government of USA.

Bush will not leave a mess behind. He's still busy cleaning up the mess that the Clinton's left behind.
But he's getting the job done.

the legacy that bush will leave will not able the america to sustained for a sole power in the world.once america will loose world power it will shattered like sand castle.eoropean union strongness ,emergence of china and iran will end the world domination of usa.the alqiada gurilla war against usa all over the world and usa presence in iraq and afghanistan will bleed american economy so that it will collapse.the rising fiscal deficit, unemployment and challege to usa world trade hegemony will make it worse.the prestige that america enjoyed worl d wide before this president alreday has gone. and like a powerfull lion cannot stand against weak jackal would not stand as powerfull as it.so in my opnion he will prove the last gorvachauf of usa.the will of all american around the worl d to break this at any cost will an ending war forever.

There IS no mess yet because the war's still on. Everyone sees a war these days and they think it's the PRESIDENT who started the end of the world. War's not fun and it's not supposed to be, but it ends, more often than not for the better.
Remember Vietnam? What a crap-job THAT was. But now that Vietnam's a free nation, they're now apologetic towards the US for putting up such a resistence against our efforts. They LIKED what we were trying to do over there.

Most of the damage caused to American institutions, government agencies, foreign relations, economy, and military will not be repaired no matter who is elected to office.

Sounds like the only mess is your perception my friend. Bush didn't start the fire - the world's been burning as long as the world has been turning.
