There's not a sure way that I know of, but here are some possibilities:
Marry a USA citizen abroad and then get a visa from the US Embassy. Or get engaged to be married to an American and apply for a "fiance" visa.
There are programs for seasonal workers for hotels and canneries. For hotels, I know they take Eastern Europeans during their summer vacation from University. I believe they can do it 2, maybe 3 years in a row. I'm less familiar with the foreign workers in canneries, but I see them flying out to some of the remote locations. Contact the hotels and canneries directly to see what skills and experience they are looking for.
An au pair (nanny) is given a one-year J-1 visa and allowed to renew for one more year (if both au pair and host family want to). You can pre-match with a family through www.greataupair.com or other websites (and then select the an approved agency (required for the visa). Or register with a particular agency (goaupair.com and au pair foundation have placements in Alaska) in advance and they will advise clients who might select you. I'd advise the broad search (open wbesite) first.
People do, of course, sometimes come as tourists and overstay their visas. They work under-the-table jobs until the next amnesty program or until they marry a US citizen.
It would be hard to get from Croatia to Alaska in the way that many Mexicans get to Texas or California. You'd have to get to Mexico or Canada first and then sneak across the border. Once in the US, a simple domestic flight would get you from the 48 states to Alaska, they just need government-issued photo ID for that, they usually aren't checking for a valid visa (like they do on an international flight to the USA).
If you can show adequate financial resources (about US$20,000 per year) and get admitted to UAA, UAF or UAJ, you could enter under a student visa for the 2 to 4 years it took to complete the program.
There are other ways to get visas, but that is Indian programmers working for Microsoft, University professors coming to teach, etc. The skills need to be specialized, in demand, unmet by Americans and highly paid.
Hope that helps.

I talked to the hotel manager at the Top of the World Hotel in Barrow, Alaska. He told me he was Serbian. He did not tell me how he came to America. Perhaps this will give you hope that it is possible.
