I have a triangle going on here....I want to pick up Chad Billingsley...however, I don't know if I should drop Nate Robertson or Joe Saunders...I was looking at the rankings from the past month and Saunders is at 135, Robertson at 161. However, Robertson plays for the better team and I think he might start to do better...it's not like he's bad or anything. It's just that it says he's worse than Saunders over the last month and I can't pick...

Give me real, legit reasons. An argument please...not just "because."

ok, it depends on what you really need to help your staff.
Wins and Losses - the only reason Robertson has not that good of a record is run support. Think of him as Roger Clemens (except not as good). His last 5 outings, he has gone 2-3. HOwever, in his 2 wins, he got 8 and 7 runs of support. In his losses, he had 1, 2, and 1. And all of his losses, he gave up only 3 or less earned runs while going a minimum of 6.0 innings each time. Saunders is good, he doesn't give up the Homer, but keep in mind that he has never made it past the 7th inning. His past 2 starts didn't make it to the 4th or the 7th. I would keep Robertson here because it all depends on run support, and in the big games, Detroit gets a lot of those.
ERA - Robertson, because of his previous starts. In his last 6 starts, the most runs he gave up were 5. But he went 6 innings in that one, and got the win. Saunders has shown weakness here, just because of walks. He walks too many batters. Someday, those walks are gonna turn into a nightmare for him.
Strikeouts, Walks - The thing about these pitchers is that they don't strike out batters. Robertson has only reached 5 twice in his last 7 outings, while Saunders has reached 6. But the thing that matters here is the walks. Robertson has only allowed 3 twice in his last 8 games, while Saunders gave up 5 his previous decision.
Overall - Robertson. Keep him on your team, he'll do well when the Tigers do well. Just be wary of the games when they score less than 3, because that wil most likely be a loss.

Both Saunders & Robertson are pretty good pitchers. If you have to drop one or the other, I would drop Saunders. Robertson has been pitching in the bigs all season. He has 162 innings under his belt, and a good solid ERA, on a team that is heading to the playoffs.
Saunders, while pitching very well lately, only has 35 innings or so in the bigs...His walk ratio is pretty high (18 walks in 35 innings.) While Robertson is not pitching all that great, the Tigers are going to give him support the rest of the way, as they fight to win home field advantage. Anaheim will be in a fight the rest of the way as well...but I think Detroit's lineup is better.
You really aren't going to loose either way, but Robertson brings more experience to the table. Saunders will eventually loose that "new pitcher" edge as he starts to face teams for a 2nd time.

Nate Robinson does, as you as, play for a much better team. However, in the last 2 months his ERA is up almost 1 run a game. Saunders and Billingsly are both great young talents and crucial if your league is a keeper league... However, they haven't been around the yard a second time yet. Most young pitchers can blank a team who has never seen him.

Roberston. Easy choice. The tigers have a more favorable schedule down the stretch and the reason robertson has pitched so poorly the last month is because he has lost his command a little. His last start proves he is coming abck to his old self (8 IP 1ER). Plus he has more run support, so the Win is more likely to occur with Nate./

dude, are you nuts? i nabbed chad off the wire in my league two weeks ago and have been LOVING it.
he's pitching much better than either of those two dork pitchers over his last 5 or 6 starts.
saunders has given up 13 runs in his last 13 innings pitched.
winning 4 in a row was a fluke.
