There's a lot to find out. He really needs to find a lawyer. If he's in England & Wales, he should go to www.resolution.org to find a specialist family lawyer. The actual cost of the divorce is usually about £500 plus VAT plus court fees of £340, and for that he'll go through the procedure of obtaining a decree absolute. The costs of the financial negotiations are very difficult to estimate without knowing how complex the finances are, the attitude of the people, but a fairly straightforward case will be about £1,000 plus VAT assuming there are no court hearings.
The children are entitled to see their father unless there's some compelling reason against it & the wife will be advised to reach an agreement either between themselves or through mediation.
If that's impossible, he'll have to apply for a contact order, but that now happens in a very small minority of cases. So far as his business is concerned, if the wife has made any contribution,eg working in the business, she may be entitled to get a lump sum out of it, but more usually it'll be left intact so that it can generate income to maintain the children.
He really needs to get a solicitor. Most will offer a free half hour interview to go through the basics.

More than getting married that's for sure, both in terms or emotion and money.

He'll only be allowed 1 in every 2 weekends to see the kids. She needs 'quality time' with them aswell and a court only accepts that weekends are classed as 'quality'. During the week when they have school etc etc then this isn't classed as 'quality', so one weekend with the father and then one with the mother and so on.

Regarding maintenance payments, being self-employed doesn't mean he gets a 'fixed' income per month so therefore an accurate payment is hard to judge.

Get a solicitor who deals with family matters and more so, try and find one that is divorced and has children as they are more 'experienced' than other solicitors. Shop around, he'll find one for sure.

All the best...

As he's got parental responsibility she can't legally stop him seeing them, A decent divorce lawyer cost a close friend about £1000, that included a contact order in the divorce, all financial dealings were amicable though.

the respond to this relies upon on countless issues which contain no count if it somewhat is amicable or no longer, no count while you're making use of a solicitor, no count if there are teenagers in the marriage, no count if it somewhat is contested or no longer etc. etc. rapid and trouble-free divorces are uncommon because it very mostly ends up in tears and fights. although, it somewhat is as my husband's ex needed a rapid divorce so she ought to get married returned and enable him cite her adultury as grounds and he agreed. they did no longer use a solicitor and he or she paid for it - low-value!!!!
