Most tell you to patent it first. That is not as easy as it sounds and can be very costly. If it works and does not infringe on other inventions that are patented then you most likely could get a lot for it. Install it on a vehicle and make sure it does what you claim by using it for a time. All car manufacturers are eager to find ways to make their engines run more efficient so they will definitely be interested. You can fill out the patent application and that way you are registered as patent applied for to help protect the item. I am sure you have seen this on other items before. Selling it is the way most people go and that sure does take a lot of thought in how to make the contract. This part would be best to get legal help. I will say that in all the years I have been around I have seen hundreds of claims of having inventions that make engines run better and more efficient. Very few of them have any merit at all. The makers of engines have research teams working on this all the time so it is difficult to find something truly new. Don't get me wrong, there always the chance you do have something new and viable so go for it.

Approach a good car company.. give presentation to proper personnels... If u'r invention works they'll by it. But, before that make sure of the patent rights of your invention, so that no one may steal it.

First, have it patented.
Second, look for a well known person who can endorse it for you. Advertise!
Third, offer it in car shops on a 3 day consignment for testing.
Fourth, if you have the money- go for items 1 to 3! If you don't have the financials, go for sponsorship then proceed to items 2 and 3!
Good luck! If your product works and you're making money out of it and you voted this as the best answer, can you give me a sample of your product for free? :)
