Be there for her, sounds like Early puberty or has something else happened, like bullying at school, a new baby, family arguments, tell her that you are there for her if she whats to talk, don't pressure her let her come to you, ask her teachers to keep an eye on her. without her knowing. and watch for any little signs that may give you a clue. When she is in a good mood give her loads of hugs and get her involved in your decision making, talk to her about some of your little problems make a few up, she may open up,
Even at that age we sometimes just what a shoulder to cry on.

My daughter is 8 too and although not tearful, she is changing rapidly.
She is a very loving and expressive young lady, but there is the edge of a teen about her too. Also, you have to consider the possibility that she may be an early starter, if you know what I mean and that her hormones are raging and she can't understand whats happening to her. Might be worth sitting down and having a gentle word to explain, but not too much detail, she is only 8 and you don't want to terrify her! Good luck honey x

It shouldn't be puberty, if it is, she is a very early starter and I never got mood swings/very emotional until menstruation began... everyone differs, I guess. She could just be bratty, or even depressed. How long has this been happening? If you're worried, talk to a counsellor. Please follow this advice... depression can strike at any age. I unfortunately fell under it's iron fist from the ages of 12 - 13; nasty, nasty, nasty time. I was cutting and everything. Fortunately I found help.

It seems strange but kids are developing so much sooner these days than when we were kids. It defo sounds like onset of puberty my cousins daughter is only 9 and has pubic hairs on her privates and underarms as well as 'sprouting'. This is bad enough at 13-14 so it must be terrible to endure even younger. You should explain as best you can the changes in her body to her and just try and be as understanding as possible as i'm sure this wont be easy.......

Mine Too!! Checked it out on the Internet and the early signs of puberty (moods!!) can start about now. Just be understanding, hormones are awful (just think what PMT does to grown women). I feel so sorry for girls, they have it all coming at them very soon. I decided to make the next few years really fun for my daughter. Once puberty takes hold there will be no returning to childhood. Love her moods and all!!

Hormones!
It's the start of puberty / body changes. It happens so young now. A friend of my daughter who's now 10 started her "monthlies" at 8 years old!!
And they say terrible twos are bad!! My deepest sympathies I'm going through the same thing now, two daughters 8 and 10!!

they all go through it some earlier than others, she may slowly be approaching, the start of her periods (poor love) just keep giving plenty of reassurance let her know you are there for her, have you discussed periods with her and explained about the mood swings when going through puberty, if she knows what they are she may be able to deal with it better, maybe she is scared, not knowing why she is feeling like this and that all girls go through pms and cry for no apparent reason.

it's not puberty, or the start of menstruation. she's 8. 8. 8 years old. that isn't the age when puberty starts. seriously. she just sounds like an immature child
