The safe processes that you can turn off is under your username. Just stay away from the processes that are run by the system, local service and network service. There are some processes though that can be viruses that's overridig the system. Just keep your

Open "Services" from Administrative Tools. You might need to enable this menu by right clicking on start menu area.

Sort columns by status. Stop services like print spooling, Help and support, messanger, etc that you feel you dont need.
Change these processes from "Automatic" to "Manual" and stop them.

This is a bit tricky and advised to do only if you know your system well. Because most of the services are inter-dependent, and may cause your computer behave abnormal.
So be careful.

thats wat u search for.
lots can be turned off or set manual not auto.
using msconfig can stop a lot of running processes too.
