Well, firstly, do you want it? Or is it because you are trying to outdo your friends with other piercings? Just make sure you want it. If you do - bear in mind it does hurt to get done and your tongue will swell up quite horribly for a few days (up to a week or two sometimes) which is normal, but very uncomfortable and you probably won't be able to eat for a while. And it may just drive you nuts having something through your tongue - if you've ever done something as minor as chip a tooth and found that sensation odd, you probably won't get used to a stud through your tongue. Also, you may end up with slightly damaged tooth enamel from tongue jewellery (although this isn't so common). Well, now that I've made it all sound quite dreadful, if you still think you want it done and you are really SURE, go ahead and I hope it's ok! I like them (had various piercings myself) but my goodness, they are getting two-a-penny these days. They aren't an unusual piercing any more. Here's a helpful web page that answers a few questions: http://www.tribalectic.com/FAQ.asp?Section=Pierced

Most people are pretty grossed out by pierced tongues. I'd advise finding some other way of getting attention that is less likely to get 100% negative attention. Try to figure out why you would want to do this. And there ARE speech problems and tooth problems for many people associated with this process. It will almost certainly make it harder to get a job or get into a good school. What makes you think it would be worth all the downsides?

I got my tongue pierced........I went with with my best friend and she volunteered to get hers done first. She hadn't had any breakfast and apparently it is most important to have food in your system before getting a piercing!! She fainted and started convulsing and inbetween convulsing and regaining consciousness she was growling and rolling her eyes back in her head....
Well for me this was awful because I had never seen my friend like this but the lady that was doing the piercing continued piercing her tongue through this whole ordeal stating 'don't worry love it happens all the time...she'll be glad when she comes too and realises that at least she got her piercing in the end!'.
After all that, I had still had to get mine done!! Nevertheless I got mine done and a few years later I had to take it out because my job wouldn't let me keep in it....my best friend still has hers though (but she states it's more the fact shes too scared to take it out)
My advice:
-If you get it done, make sure you eat before it!
-Depending on what you do for a job, some companies don't like their staff to have them particularly if you will be dealing with alot of customers/clients.
-Even though I don't have mine anymore, it was still worth the memories!
-People say that it can fall out and you can swallow it etc and it chips your teeth blah blah blah, but you can easily buy plastic balls so don't listen to them!
-They make nice marks when you lick an icecream.
But overall,
I think tongue piercings are a bit outdated these days, so I would say no. But if you find a pretty one then why not! People are intrigued by them and they are good talking points.

Do it if its soemthing you really think you'd be happy with. I pierced mine three years ago and I havent got any regrets. Although my friend got hers pierced like 3 weeks ago, she regrets it badly because her piercer didn't tell her that she had too many nerves underneath her thong, that if she went ahead with it she could loose her speech, since then her tongue has swollen really badly and I think shes caught an infection, she went to the hospital and she had to remove it staright away. If your planning on getting it done, research around find the best piercer you can find maybe ask friends and relatives. Find someone who will give you an honest opinion and is not just after your money.

It hurts so bad. I didn't get numbed and I don't know if they normally do. My mouth swelled up for a couple weeks and my god, I didn't think it was worth it and I wanted to rip the damn thing out. Now I think it's cute. If you are a baby like me, don't go for it. Like I said, it's cute in the long run.

No, I think that's gross. And people with pierced tongues can't talk right.

That has to be one of the most stupid thing you can do. Don't do it to be cool or because of peer pressure. Spend your money on something good like a card or flowers for your mother.
