Any methods would be greatly appreciated. I tend to over-react and would like to change my behavior towards those hell-bent on making life hard for me.

Try not to react in their presences. Put as much distance between you and them as possible. Make sure if you are stuck with them they see you smiling and having a good time [ even if your not!]

A Wildchild welcome to my nightmare! I was very much like yourself, just had to tell these indesirables exactly how i felt about them. Now my reason was!!! I was being honest but hey! It wasn't too appreciated and often led me into trouble. I got a bit older and realised that the only way to deal with such people was sheer contempt! So whenever faced with any of them ... I simply keep quiet, do not take part in the conversation and always find i have something very important to do! Some very important people to see. i know it sounds a bit like Mrs bouquet but hey ... Works every time because it makes them realise that they are simply not worth my time/attention or any kind of feelings! Great thing is ... My partner knows a lot of those and over the last few months ... Only one or two visit now LOL They did get the message!!!

Well, I can be an asshole, so if someone is getting on my nerves, then I just am a bigger *** then they are, hasn't failed yet. I don't think I'm normally an *** though. That is similar to what you want to change though, so I suppose I'm not a big help.

The guy above me has a good method for most situations, occasionally it can get your *** kicked though, so having more than one response to this would be a good idea. I suppose I'm just more stubborn than the other guys though.

While "ignoring" these creatures is the higher road, sometimes direct confrontation cannot be avoided. In these cases, it depends who the a$$hole is. If they cannot physically harm you even if attempted, then I say go crazy and tell them what time it is! A colorful retort cannot be underestimated!

En garde!

If you can be harmed, good to know big friends and go crazy with your verbal tirade then!

Else, swallow your pride and walk the other way and mumble words of displeasure! ;)

I try to offend them back on yahoo answers, in real life not many people are azzholes to me, I consider myself as a nice guy, so people are nice to me.

I wouldn't blame you if you did over-react, it's hard to keep the anger inside of you, but these people are feeding off the anger from you, they love it when they p!ss people off. It's really sad.

Just ignore them! They are not worth your time or your effort! And getting "back" at them... well, that would be just going down to their level. They will come to their senses one day and they will realize how wrong they were and find themselves either all alone, or surrounded with a**holes as they are... You win in any case!

the best i have learnt from my innumerable encounters with them is "IGNORE" ... there is absolutely no need or any gain from bringing yourself down to their level..... they feed of the attention and reaction that we give so they ar quickly going to loose interest if u dont rise to the occasion. and in very rare cases a tight slap on the face seems to be the BEST solution for ur icting hand and their dumb brain..... good luck and lemme know..;))

depends on who the a.h. is.
i've learned to walk away because nothing else is worth the effort or angers them as much.

assholes like pissing you off. thats basically all it is. they feel better when they have made you angry. if you just smile and laugh, it diffuses them. walk away, ignore them. but never get angry back. it fuels them on, and they will never ever back down.
