Hi, my boyfriend and I spend £10 a week on electric, about £6 a week on gas (more in winter) We dont pay council tax as I am a student. Water is cheap about £10 a month. We have gas and electric on a pre pay system so we know how much we spend. Dont forget fuel for cars, and food we spend about £50 a week on food (but we cook exotic stuff so ingredients are expensive!)
Home phone and internet if you need it, we just use our mobiles though as they worked out very expensive!
Hope this helps, and good luck x

It's quite variable,

Council tax depends on what band house you have, From Band A (cheapest) to Band E (dearest) but you can probably call that £70 a month

Water is about £35 a month

Electric about £20 - £25 a month

Heating (if gas I don't know) for Electric will just raise your electric rates (prob to about £35 a month)

Phone - You have to pay line rental and calls so prob around £25 a month.

You're probably looking at around £170 a month. Obviously if you get Broadband, you're looking at a bit more, so I'd say between £160 and £190 a month.

Remember, after that you will have other expenses (i.e. a car) not to mention mortgage/rent.

ok, I was taught this when I moved out for the first time and I have taught my kids when they moved out for the first time and it seems that you might be on to the same thing. It is called your budget. So here we go.
UTILITIES
Fall is approaching so you guesstamate according to the season and the amount of time you and the other person will be at home using the Utilities. As winter approaches utility costs tend to rise then when spring comes they tend to dropl It is not exact but it will give you ball park figures. (pick and choose which apply then tally them all up when you are done)
Electric @$40 -60
Gas-@$30-50
Oil @$300
Water @$50-70

TRANSPORTATION
Car payment @$150-200
Car Insurance @$100 (this varies greatly)
Parking @$80
Public Transportation @$50-70
Gas @$40-80

ENTERTAINMENT
Cable @$45-95
Phone @$25-50
Internet @$10-55
Monthly Subscriptions @$10-40
Cell phone @$40-110
One night out a week @$100

FOOD
Weekly groceries @$60-160 (depends on if you shop thrifty or not say with coupons, looking at ads for the best deals)
Lunch out at Work @ $25-50 weekly (much less if you brown bag it from home)

HEALTHCARE
dental ins and/or payments
medical ins and/or payments
birth control products
bandaids
ointments
you get the picture

PERSONAL CARE ITEMS & MICELLANEOUS
toilet paper
deoderant
toothpaste
laundry soap
laundry quarters (if doing at laundromat)
make-up
mouthwash
feminine hygiene products
cleaning products
paper towels
dishwasher detergent
pet supplies (I suggest no pet)

And last but never least....
Whatever is left over after you come to a ballpark figure then you subtract that from the total of your two incomes, after taxes, you will know how much you have to spend on your

RENT
This is listed last but it is THE MOST IMPORTANT bill that must be paid and never missed because a roof over your head is vital, the rest is a luxury, basically. You can juggle and scrimp for the rest but your rent must always come first. Also, Pay your main bills immediately when you get paid so the money does not end up elsewhere, and it will. Even if you put it in a money order or hand it over to your parents to hold or whatever. Get the cash out of your hands and to whatever money sucking bill it has to go to. Kiss it goodbye and move on.

I think I have covered pretty much everything. I hope you are not overwhelmed. You will get very good at cutting corners and juggling things from month to month as time goes on. I wish you the best of luck and although it may seem very expensive the price one pays for their freedom is generally always worth it.

As most people have said it depends where you live and how big the flat is. Council tax varies from £60 a month to £200 a month for a two bed flat in London. Bills; gas = £45 water = £25 Electicity = £30. Remeber also TV licence, cable, broadband, house insurance. It all adds up!

depends on where you are how big the property is and how heavily you use things like electric
do you leave lights on when you go out or overnight ect

you should be able to find out council tax bill by going to the council but you would have to know what price band the house/flat you are moving to is in

you would be better of asking local people

water gas and electric prices can vary from company to company

try logging on to uswitch and give an estimate of how much gas ect you think you will use they will then give you a list of companies and what they are likely to charge

some companies also give a dicount if you get both gas and electric from them

bt have different price packages for the phone but you would need to work out which one would be beast for you on your proijected phone usage other phone companies may be cheaper and some also do combined phone internet packages

For food £200 / Month (as long as you cook rather than takeaway)
Council tax £130 / Month
Gas & electric £50 / Month
Water £20 - £50 / Month
Tv Licence £12 / Month
rent or mortgage ?
Property insurance ?
Telephone / internet ?
Car maintainance / fuel or travel expenses ?

although you can divide the bill by 2 people, it still mounts up

Boy oh boy, are you in for a shock!!

Us parents just cannot get you younger ones to realise just how much we have to spend each month just to keep the household in such luxuries as food, heating, power, (especially toilet rolls though! just WHAT do you use sooooo much for??)

Then you will need to factor in your mobile phone bills, transport bills (your own car, or car share, or bus, or train!!) alcohol, cleaning products (both personal and household) television licence, council tax, water bills, more alcohol

I wish you all the best of luck, just be prepared to be a bit broke for a very long time, well until you are old enough for the kids you will have to leave home

ok...

water 25
gas + leccy 40
council tax 90
tv licence (if ur in the UK) 25
insurance 14

then plus rent.

my total each month is 800 give or take. my rent is 410 and i also have a loan too which takes it up.

i live quite close to town so the rent is higher, the further away u are the cheaper it will be. since i dont drive, i dont have much choose on where i live as i need to be close to work.

its expensive moving out for the first time but u will get used to it. just dont expect to be going out all the time with ur friends, coz u wont be able to afford it.

its worth it tho!!!

You missed out the phone bill. (also food, cleaning products etc., but I assume you're not including that)

Probably around £250 a month.

It obviously depends how much you use electricity/phones etc though.
