No! It's entirely fiction! All entertainment movies are fiction unless told otherwise. Ex: World Trade Center comercial said that it "was based on a true event." Therefore you know that it's a true story.

The latest movie "Poseidon" is not a real event, but it was a re-make of an older film "The Poseidon Adventure".
It was very close to the original but simply revamped with modern actors and modern effects.

OK... I came from a town where they built ships, and the president of one of the shipyards said that they just aren't built like that - they can flip over, but they will roll to at least a partially upright position if they haven't taken on water (and a lot of it). The only way the ship would stay upside down is if it had actually grounded that way, so it was resting on the bottom of the body of water and no longer floating, stuck. Movies like this are about fantasy and special effects, so just ignore that and see if you like the movie on its merits as a movie. The Spiderman and Superman movies aren't based on reality either, but they can be lots of fun to watch.

No. It's based on an equally silly movie made about 30 years ago.

I think it's based on a best-selling book which became a near-identical movie 20 years ago. They just felt like making a more up-to-date version I guess.
