Yes, because the destruction goes way beyond what you would call collateral damage.
Yeah yeah, Hezbollah's using civillians as human shields. But if they're the terrorists they're being persecuted for, what do you expect? I'm not saying it's ok for them to use human shields, but to use that as an excuse to bomb entire towns and villages to rubble is just wreckless.
And how do you explain the bombing of power stations that supply an entire region of Lebanon? The bombing of sewage treatment plants?
You may agree with me or you may not. But that matters squat. That's why the issue should be referred to an independent inquiry, and yes, a war crimes tribunal. Let the nitty gritty details of who's done what and why be explained there.

I think it's worth it, but not on the assumption that they will be found guilty, just to really root out what was happening. I mean, they seem to have been targetting civilians indiscriminately- I think it may turn out that a lot of that could not be 'justified' by Hizbollah fighters using civilians as cover. Add to that the widespread destruction of Lebanon's infrastructure which seemed to serve less a military purpose, more the crippling of the country for all it's citizens.
Israel seem to be taking the attitude that everything they've bombed was a bona fide target. Okay. Then they have nothing to fear from a war crimes tribunal... but if it turns out that their actions qualify as war crimes, which I fear may be the case, then those responsible should face the consequences of their actions.
My questions would be though- who would preside over the court? Where would it's power come from? How could you ensure a fair trial? It's details like that which make the process less workable, but it doesn't mean it shouldn't be done.

Yes but I think their political leadership should be as well. But not just Israel, any country that contravenes rules of war no matter how much they were goaded, should be tried.
But history shows the victors are never punished. But then again some may believe that the allies didn't commit any war crimes during WWII etc.
Everybody - thats everybody must be treated equally. Unfortunately the west and its allies are often treated differently. They claim to have the greater good on their side and we the citizens believe that.
By the way, in case you are wondering I am white european (UK).

Dropping cluster bombs on civilians, as the Israelis did two days ago, is a crime under the Geneva Convention. Yes they should be tried - their actions are an offence to any descent person.
Unfortunately this won't happen because of protection from USA who have, in effect, excluded themselves and their 'mates' from the consequences of breaking International Law.

my advice to you, sir, is to go back to school and learn something about the middle east, war, peace, self-protection when fired upon and a few hundred other issues. The Israeli generals will be fired because they took a very careful approach (tip-toe through the tulips) when they attacked the Hezbollah terrorists in Lebanon. Next time they will smash through with guns blazing and ALL houses will be gone, the ones shielding Hezbollah and the others that do not. You cannot be picky in war. If you fight to win everything goes up in flames. I was in WW2 and if we fought the way Israel fought this last time we would still be in France fighting the Germans. We went through France and Germany and Holland and Belgium shooting at everything that looked like the enemy. Was crimes? Not a single guy in our outfit even those who killed hundreds of people. It was war. And what about war crimes for Hezbollah who killed babies and women in Israel? Do they get a trial or a medal?

Perhaps you should read the speech made by the Israeli Prime minister on July 31st.
When terrorists hide behind women and children in order to fire missiles in to Israel, hitting kindergardens, hospitals and old age homes, Israel has a right to strike back and will do so. They have no need to apologise. Israelis do not make a practice of televising body parts as the terrorrists do, but the carnage on the Israeli side is equally appalling, and unnecessary.
He speaks for 6 million Jews. They are the voice of another 6 million who perished at the hands of barbarians whilst the world did nothing.
Why is this hypocritical double standard always applied to Israel???

The Israeli government and its senior military leaders should not only be prosecuted for their recent crimes against the civilian population of Lebanon but for their treatment of the Palestinian people in Gaza and beyond and for the litany of government sanctioned acts of terror and assassinations since the foundation of their "state".
Israel has continually shown a callous disregard for its neighbours and for international law, knowing that the United States will back it regardless of its actions. Their excuse - we only have to lose once. The last government to rely on this philosophy to justify the brutal repression of its opponents was Israel's former ally, Apartheid South Africa.

Yes they should be tried for war crimes. The Prime Minister and defence Minister should join them. We should not forget the leaders of Hezbollah and while we are at it we should have a little chat with George and Tony about their actions in Iraq.

For ordering the deaths of thousands of noncombatants... and veiling it under a diaphonous veil of BS... called... human shields... that's like saying that it's okay to kill an inordinate amount of people because you're trying to get the guy sitting across from said target....

Who will try them?
The policeman of the world (USA) is their subordinate and the Judges (UNO) live on their donations.
Wait till Hammas and Hizbullah settle the scores.
