...have known her for 2 years and we were supposed to go and see a show the other night. My poor mother took ill and I couldn't make it. I gave my friend the money back for the show (including paying for hers), so she could enjoy the night out with someone else instead. I even gave her some money for a meal. I felt bad letting her down, but my mother comes first to me. Since this has happened, my so called friend hasn't even asked how my mother is and she says "I think our friendship has run its course". She also said she felt snubbed because I couldn't meet her for lunch at work, even though she knew I had to go with my mom to A&E and I was exhausted going into work the next day. What should I do with my friend?

I think her comment about it having run its course fairly well sums it up. It sounds like she is being unreasonable. If she cannot accept your priorities (very REASONABLE priorities, at that), then it may be time to move on. You don't have to burn any bridges because you never know what the future holds, but you can still gracefully move on from the friendship for now.

Toxic friend!!!
I know this as my best friend of 14 years suddenly lost interest as I had been unwell and she had a new life in London even though I had spent the past 4 years supporting her through a depression. Suddenly I wasn't cool....which I'm not...I'm just normal! It was ok for her in the past. I say good riddance as she was a drain on me if I'm honest....all take and no give. It has taken me until now to say that though. It really hurt at the time...move on love....you are better than that x

Forget her, she is not a true friend. She is selfish and thinks only of herself with no compassion for anyone else. It seems that she has to come first in everything. You will soon find a genuine friend, one who would insist that you looked after your mother when she was taken ill.
Good luck and I hope that your mother is better now.

that doesn't sound like much of a Friend to me especially as you had such an effort to give her the money back from the show and stuff, i wold say you don't need friends like that. If my mum was ill my friends would all call to see how my mum was

she is not a true friend if she can not understand that you mother was ill and you had to be with her. A true friend would have even gone with you and helped you with your mother. Let her go i think she has proven what kind o friend she is.

It has recently happened to me, but I offered the olive branch, she refused, end of. I got other friends that supported me, they are the ones that are true friends. So don't be down, move on it's their loss of such a good friend.
