A combination of intake, exhaust, header, and a chip is not likely to give you more than 15 hp, 20 if you're lucky. I've seen a lot of magazine articles covering buildups of four cylinder engines, and most of them seldom pick up more than that from this sort of work. If you want to add 40 or more NA horsepower, you will probably want some more upgrades - I'd guess aftermarket cams, a larger throttle body, and some cylinder head porting on top of the basic mods ought to get you there. And any chips or computer tuning will need to be matched specifically to your combination.
The cheapest way to add 40 hp, if you don't need those horsepower all the time, would be nitrous. Or you could add a turbo and have more than 40 more horses.

cold air intake, custom exhaust will run you around $300-$500 if you have someone put it on. Computer tune- you'll have to see a tech for that cost start at $150 for that. Should be able to get your 40 HP and little more with the computer tune. Well under the cost of a turbo. If going with the turbo be sure to do your maintenance on it on regular basis. I had a Saturn I had turbo put on, two heads later. I went by Saturn maintenance specs, wrong I religiously changed my oil and spark plugs after that. Put it a on a scanner every 9 months.

well i am guessing you mean add 40 hp to it. in order to do this you should start with a cold air intake and a performance tune. this is a very good first mod for any car to perform better. really though the easiest way would be with the addition of a turbo. this will easily give you the extra power. the only down side is it is a little pricy, but it will get you well over 40 extra horses.

Dont waste your time with an intake, header, and exhaust. It will be over $1000 and you will hardly feel a difference. Just save your money for a supercharger. They are more reliable than a turbo and easier to install.
