I can't even imagine how this administration would have handled the disaster had it hit white, affluent neigbhborhoods. We can transport hundreds of military tanks to Iraq but we can't deliver water to poor people in the good ole USA.For all the black people that voted for Bush, when Katrina hit, Bush''s true colors showed up. The people of New Orleans were not treated as a priority. Is there anyone out there that is as sickened as I am. And they say Racism isn't prevalent.

Bush abandoned the citizens, probably not because of race, because the citizens didn't belong to the Investor's Class that his top supporters belong to. The response time to save the people that were left was criminally slow. The Feds were responsible for mantaining those levees and they failed in that to the highest extent. The Feds are the reason the City lies comatose even to this day. Ronald Reagan said "People expect the government to solve their problems, Government is the problem." We must become Republicans if we do not like the way that they operate. We must let our voice be heard loudly. This is not a Race issue, it is an American issue. We should not cut and run in Iraq, so we should not look the other way and CUT & RUN when it comes to rebuilding one of the greatest city anyone could have lived in, no matter what you've heard. This is an American issue.
Why is that anyone who speaks honestly about where the blame lies is branded as a liberal. Wouldn't you want the President to respond and help a city in America that faces something like a missle attack. What Katrina did to the N.O is equal to an atomic bomb going off. If you're comfortable with the Gov't response time then you're crazy. Why is it that Bush cut his vacation short for Terry Shiavo, but not his fellow citizens, suffering. Dont get me wrong Blanco is the real villian of Katrina. And I am not anti-BUSH, but please don't tell me that the Gov't shouldnt go save people when we can get to foreign countries in a matter of hours in the events of a disaster. tHE City went under water because of the faulty design of the levees, and the reduction of wetland due to offshore drilling. KATRINA also showed how loving, and great we are as a country when we opened up ours to help those displaced. RAY NAGIN failed on the local level, but he did not have the power to access the buses, he did save hundreds of thousands of people, I guess people tend to forget that.

President Bush should not be blamed for people not leaving a city
what about their official ignoring reports from scientist, that if any thing big ever hit the city it would destroy it He's the President He is not God .

Romans 13:1 LET every soul be subject unto the higher powers.
For there is no power but of God:the powers that be are ordained of God.

Some of my Best friends are from New Orleans even my Pastor she left for reasons of her own,but that's still the city where she was born. So Just Pray for our President and for the people recovering from Katrina ,Black,White and any everything in between All the human people that bleed red blood.

The answer to that is pretty easy: MATH.

The Bush junta knew from demographics that the majority of New Orleans are blacks who vote overwhelmingly democratic as opposed to fascistic.
The more black people died, the better for them. The less impact on social security budgets, the less Democratic voters.
The more people displaced over the U.S. the more diluted the voter pool for the New Orleans area became. The more people flushed out by Katrina, the easier it is for development companies (who heavily bribe the GOP and their cronies) to swoop in and grab the land for development. And that is exactly what happens in the New Orleans area.

As i have said so often. Human suffering and humans as such do not matter at all to the Bush junta when it comes to make a buck or grab power.

Your question is very racist. There were people from all races stranded in New Orleans after the storm. I watched FNC coverage of the storm's aftermath for many many hours every day for about two weeks and saw all kinds of people - Blacks, Whites, Asians, and Hispanics.

The Bush administration had their failures. But what about the failures of the black Mayor of New Orleans. He abandoned the people of his town before the storm. He knew that the inner city had poor people as well as sick people who had no way of getting out of town before the storm. He made no effort to use the school buses or any other kind of transportation available to the city to get them out of town before the storm hit. Instead he was in Dallas getting housing accommodations for his family. All he cared about was protecting his own interest, i.e., himself and his family's.

The white Governor was incompetent too. She did the following in the beginning:(1) She refused to adequately communicate with the federal government about her needs inspite of the fact the Bush adminstraton asked her to do so. (2) She refused to send the National Guard out to help. (3) She refused to let the Red Cross go to the dome to bring aid and relief to the people stranded there because she felt like if she did more people would go to the dome and the dome already had to many people there. The list goes on and on.

Thankfully, the local, state, and federal governments have identified where they went wrong and have changed how they will respond to another catastrophic hurricane should they be threatened by one.

what a crock- you say nothing about the people running NOLA, Nagin and that stupid cow govenor.

Bush doesn't have responsibility for how a state or a city responds to a disaster. He steps in when asked and when the request comes he directs agencies to do their job. Yes FEMA blew it, but they shouldn't have been put into that situation by a corrupt and inept state and local government.

NOLA citizens were ADVISED to leave. Southern Pacific had hundreds of trains that left there EMPTY because the LOCAL government did not respond.

Your cries of "racism" are typical of Demcrat "race-baiting" Bush is the 1st to appoint black cabinet members- Colin Powell?Condi?
What's the Democrats track record? Clinton's secretary...wow, typical Demo "do as I say, not as i do"

Yes the current adm. dropped the ball but weren't those people told to get out but they went to the super dome instead, what I'm really sick of is people talking like New Orleans was the only city that got hit what about the cities on the MS gulf coast they were completly wipped out had buildings moved miles from where they first built at, yes I feel sorry for they people that lost everything, the ones that actually left to go to a safe location, but not the ones that stayed thinking that the govt. would bail them out and if you paid any attention to the news there were white people affected to and lets not forget the lovely statement the Mayor of good ole New Orleans said too.

This is an incredibly complex question with numerous even more complex answers. I've been in NO working on and off over the last year, and...well, I'll tell you this: There are plenty of people, both black and white but all poor, still living in FEMA trailers--many of whom haven't even been allowed to return to their houses, because even a year later the government hasn't "secured the area"-- while $500k houses, condos, and subdivisions are popping up all over. There's a definite drive at the moment to keep the poor out and get the rich in as fast as possible.

ETA: Add to this fact that insurance companies have been flat refusing to pay out premiums for destroyed homes, since they know these people can't afford a lawyer...the victims are many, and the profiteers are many. It's hard to throw the blame on any one group when you see what a mess it truly is down there.

I live in Louisiana and trust me there were plenty of white people and people of other races in New Orleans as well. Many of these people chose to ignore the warning to leave as well don't forget that. Many people chose to stay in order to loot the houses and shops of those that left, obviously not expecting it to be as bad as it was. Unless you were there or went there to help the cleanup you don't have firsthand knowledge of what happened. There were dozens more murders and rapes that weren't talked about in the news. You can't trust the media, they only report what side they want you to lean towards. Then, of course the mayor takes the guns away from people trying to protect themselves from murderers and rapists walking the streets. Sure the cleanup could have gone better, but I was there and it was alot worse than you even know.

Those that were the most dependent on the government were the ones that were hurt the most during Katrina. Black or White.

Blame Bush or Nagin... Just blame somebody else for not taking care of you.

Katrina DID hit affluent, white neighborhoods. Lakeview took 12 feet of water. All the people who drowned there were white. You are displaying your ignorance.
