And not trying to be facetious but hybriddrumonkey's assertion that hardcore existed before any kind of dance music is not correct. Electronic music was being experimented with as early as the 60's and dance music (though not as we know it today) existed as far back as the 40's. Punk and hardcore are much younger genres.
