Find a book or a website that teaches chord positions. I even have a poster that has pretty much every chord you'd ever need. I learned by checking out a book from the library that had easy guitar music and it showed diagrams for how to play each chord. Find something like that, and have fun!

Find someone who knows how to play who is patient enough to sit down and teach you. When I learned to play on a squire, the first song I learned was happy birthday. My friend sat down, showed me the tages on it, and taught me how to play the tags. It was real easy for me because he showed me where the numbers on the guitar were, and then the tags tell you what numbers to play.

Let me tell you...I was in the same position a few months ago...

My sister got me Guitars for Dummies and now I'm decent...

It's a GREAT book and I'm sure you could benefit a lot from getting a copy...

Good luck.
