Isn't that when a person would get another person into the country and they would have to be their servant until the "master" said the debt was paid. It was a way for poor people to get to the Americas.

Indentured Servitude was a case of work in order to pay a debt. basically a form of slavery until the debt was considered paid in full. The headright system was used in the early colonies. Each new person had the right to a set portion of acreage of land, or land right per head. In the case of indentured servitude the person who paid the fare to get the person there had the right to claim that persons headright of land as their own, as well as to expect the number of years of labor (servitude) that had been agreed uponas part of the agreement for passage.

I'm learning that too. Well, rich people pay for the passage of laborers, and in return receive an amount of money. (The rich people get the benefit)
These indentured servants must work for a certain # of years to receive freedom. Afterwards, they get some food and maybe some land.
This servitude was used after the English found the Indians as an incompetent work source, and before exploiting Africans. :(
Hope this helps.!
