I'm an american. I know nothing. sort of like george bush. anyway, if i sumbitted an application through ucas in mid-september, when should I start hearing back from university whether I was accepted or not?

Depends on the school. Some will let you know in a couple of months, some will let you know in January. Check on the applications that you submitted!

I heard back from some of mine within a month, but some of them I'd not heard back from until January time. Probably different for you if you're an international student (though I don't know). You'll get a letter from UCAS for each university you applied to, letting you know if you got accepted or rejected, so you will definitely hear either way, rather than being left hanging on. I *think* you can check your application process online at www.ucas.co.uk or www.ucas.ac.uk.. although I think until you hear anything it just says pending. Might hear a few days earlier than your letter arrives though, because of posting.

i think it'll depend on the school's policy on deadlines for applications each semester or quarter. if, however, ur aligned with the deadlines it might take fairly 2-3 months.
