If you look at jobs in general, why does it seem the most jobs are in food service, department or retail stores, or health care.? I can't imagine how USA citizens can afford houses, let alone rent, public transportation if they can't afford a car. Where does the government come off saying the average salery is like $35 or $50 grand? Are that many people in higher paying jobs? They must are be blank-mart managers, not pee ons like us in cleaning, dishes, stock, kitchen, or housekeeping jobs. I think the majority of USA jobs are minimum wage or not much over that. I think where they say people average $35grand per year is absurd. What is the average income for all USA emplyees combined? It's got be near or slightly above poverty level.

The sad truth is that with cost of living the way it is, $50K is minimum wage for most families. Beg borrow or steal, it's impossible for the average person to make it these days. How many people do you now who have dime one saved for retirement. Who haven't had to draw out what they may have had in a 401K? Anything less than $100K. You're not making it. I know I'm not. Not like I was.

I think the average is affected by people who make $200,000+ a year, which does skew the results.

Just because the average is high doesn't mean that this is what the majority of people are making. You have doctors, lawyers, business owners, etc. who are making well above the $35,000 mark, which will inevitably raise the average.

You also need to look at the fact that really, the poverty level will differ from state to state, and city to city. In a smaller town where property values are lower, people can afford homes on lower salaries--but given the same pay in a larger city, they'd be hard-pressed. The same can be said of the cost of living in more rural areas compared to cities.

I don't remember seeing the gov't report saying "average income" I do remember reports saying "median income." those are different things. Still I think you should realize that 23% of the work force works for the gov't. These workers are more educated than average and have an average income of 39K (work force = 17 years old to 65 years old) Another 20% are not considered employed. Many for profit industries (mining, oil, auto, financial, insurance, medical and environmental) have higher average incomes than average gov't incomes and account for about 14% of the employees. Non profit employees ( hospital nurses & lab techs, private college teachers etc. have incomes equivlant to gov't jobs. 5% For every 7 workers one a job one person is needed in management. If a business has 70 waitresses they need 7 managers to oversee the waitresses and an additional manager to oversee the 7 managers. This private sector accounts for about 25 % of the work force. The remainder are small family type business. Added to income is money returned on investments.

this relies upon, if you're a daily run of the mill worker that does jobs which the international desires to live to inform the tale, ie, policeman, baker, production unit worker, fireman etc its about a million.5 - 3%. even with the undeniable fact that if you're a member of parliment contained in the British Isles this figure jumps to about 40 - 50% !!!!! Double criteria back through the British authorities.

If you are looking at figure that are true averages, then you are correct, the statistics don't paint an accurate picture for most Americans. For instance, if you make 10,000 annually, Bob makes 10,000, and I make 100,000, then our average salary is 40,000. Obviously this does nothing for you and Bob, while I'm sitting here by the pool at my vacation home.
