I thought it was over-rated. Just OK. I was expecting more, but should have known better. There's much better out there, but harder to find. Try Kate Atkinson, Haruki Murakami, Marquez, Peter Carey, Mark Helprin, Margaret Atwood, Lionel Shriver, Zadie Smith, Richard Russo, C. D. Payne, Matt Ruff, Barbara Kingsolver, Liz Jensen, Carol Shields, Jim Crace, Michael Chabon, Ann Patchett, Franzen, Gary Shteyngart, Mary Doria Russell, Annie Proulx, Harry Mulisch, Elinor Lipman.

The book was so awesome, the mermaid chair was also really good. I think you should check out reading Back When We Were Grownups by Anne Tyler, it has a sorta slow start but it gets to be pretty good

I really enjoyed the book and the ending but I really expected a different ending entirely.

I LOVED it. And I thought that the ending was perfect. Have you read "The Mermaid Chair"? That is another great book by Sue Monk Kidd.

I absolutely adore that book. I know fifty eleven people have already said this, but if you liked that book, you HAVE to read The Mermaid Chair. It's one of only 3 books that made me sob...it was THAT moving.
