I'm not. I hope it comes sooner. Others fear it because they don't know what will happen after death. People don't like being in the unknown. People don't like not knowing the answer.

Maybe your question should be, "Why am I afraid to die?"
I am NOT afraid to die. My hope is that I don't have to put my family through the pain of watching me have a painful death. I would worry about them mourning and missing me too much. I would rather that my death be a celebration of knowing we will meet again in the hereafter. My mother died when she was 30 and was not here to raise my brother and myself. My children are grown and married. Through my life I had the hope that I would live long enough to raise my children. I don't know of any of my associates or acquaintances who are afraid to die.

We are not ALL afraid of death. For myself, my fear is the suffering that one might encounter before death. Also knowing that those left behind will be sad or their lives will have to change because of your death and that will be hard for them. But I feel if a person has lived a good life then death is a reward that one receives and you will move on to a better place, a higher state of being, free from all the constraints that life here on earth can bring. Those of us who do not believe in eternal peace and happiness and/or a higher plane of existence or those who do believe and have not lived their lives accordingly are those that are the fearful ones.

The unknown is why... However some are not and hope for it... I am afraid of everything leading up to death not being important or why I was put on this earth. Maybe that is it also, thinking you may not get done what you need to get done (for most of us that is to live forever)

IMO, we are not afraid of death. what we are afraid of is leaving the life that we have without doing something for humanity. Many people embrace death or doesn't even care to die; that's either because they have done their part or just sick of the life they are living.

Hi Impressionable,
More than likely because
we tend to be afraid of
the unknown.
Also, as we humans
understand death, is it
so final.
But in reality, we know nothing
about it, other than until our time
comes, we won't see our loved
ones who have already left us.
That is what I concentrate on -
reuniting with my loved ones
who have left so suddenly
and the void they have left is
almost unbearable at times.
Don't be afraid - I think they're
having a ball up there. It is us,
with our limited understanding
who are going through a tough time.
Stay well!

Because it is the unknown. I am not afraid of death itself, I am afraid of how it might happen.

People are afraid of the unknown. They are afraid to let go of who and what they have/know for whatever comes next. Will it be better? Worse? Nothing? Who knows?

The unknown. Everybody is afraid of the unknown although not everybody would admit that. It's the finality of it as well. Along with leaving your loved ones and what not. Leaving your comfortable surroundings to God knows what. That's scary!!!
