Moderate exercise have actually helped me to recover faster but so does rest, a sensible diet and drinking plenty of fluids...it all depends on the individual too, what works for me might not work for you and vice versa.

1. Assess your symptoms. If your troubles are above the neck, moderate exercise is probably OK. For example, if you have a cold and no fever, a walk may be fine.
2. If you have flu-like symptoms and a fever, just rest.
3. Do not work out hard for at least a couple of weeks if you're really sick. Your body needs to concentrate on healing.
4. Start slowly when you return to exercising. You will have lost some strength, but it will come back faster with patience. Don't beat yourself up and get sick again.
5. Sleep, sleep, sleep. Your body needs the rest time to repair the immune system. Also, if you are stepping up the exercise intensity quite a bit, you may even need more sleep. Try for at least 8 hours per night.

A little walking around is good to get your circulation moving and stop your muscle and joints from becoming stiff and dry . However, When body is sick, it needs rest to heal and mend itself. You need to preserve your energy for getting better. Moderate excerise is ok but not so much to waste all the vitamines/calories/minerals that your body is needing to fx itself to recovery. A lot of rest is better during any sickness.

You need to rest your body. Exercising would not feel good either.

It makes it worst cause your body is at its weakest point. And you should really spend that time resting and drinking plenty of fluids.

Do not exercise if:
you are extremely tired or have muscle aches, vomiting, diarrhea, chills, swollen lymph glands, or a hacking cough
you have a fever - doing so increases the risk of dehydration, heatstroke, and even heart failure
you have a cold
you have a hangover
Exercising when you are ill, even with a cold, will only prolong your illness and put more strain on your immune system. You increase your chance of injury too because you are feeling too miserable to pay attention to what you are doing. Not to mention you are exposing everyone else to your germs!
