i just bought mine today and i need to know how long a male would live in a 5 gallon tank .

I dont know wat to tell u because my betta fish is still alive, and i have had it for about 3 years now. I had another one, and i got it at the same time as the other one, but it died because the water wasnt clean. (my bad)
You will hav your fish for a while...and enloy it! Its a beautiful kind of fish. Just remember not to put two betta fish in the same tank because they are also known a japanese fighting fish. They will kill eachother...

put two of them together and one won't live long...but atleast you will get the stronger of the two after they go at it
