I never was a great football player. so this offseason i lifted weights, did speed drills, etc. Anyhow we were doing tackling drills and our coach would always encourage good players like"way to be/play" or "clean his clock" before we went. i got up and he said nothing. I went against our varsity runningback and held on when we colided.I gave it my hardest effort and i stayed with him and kept fighting until i got him down. the coach then said NICE TACKLE WAY TO BE. then when i went again he said to the "tackelee" watch out he is going to open a can of whoop *** on you and i made anoter nice tackle. when he said it he sounded enthused and excited. Do you think if i keep practicing hard and doing my aboslute best the coaches may start me on varsity if keep it up and continue making the strides that i have in practice due to my working in the offseason?

Also our coach isnt for starting a sophmore above a senior or junior but he says if you are willing to work hard enough then you will get playing time.

I think the coach noticed your growth ... and your efforts in practice.

You may play varsity...you probably won't start before a senior...but keep pushing.

My freshman year I started only because the two seniors ahead of me took injuries before the season.

Keep trying hard...keep working out.

Good luck!

Sounds like it. Is this high school or college football, by the way? To have a coach acknowledge you now, whereas in the past they didn't, should tell you that you have improved...gotten stronger and faster, and that is always good to have on a team. What position do you play?

Hmmm, let's see, none of us were there so other than what you tell us, we have absolutely no understanding of the situation. I think you can look at the same set of facts you provided and come to a reasonable conclusion. My best advice if you want to get better and play varsity, don't waste your time asking pointless questions to strangers. Best of luck.

I coach football at one of the Florida schools. Coaches notice everything. Even when you think we arent watching we really are.

If you work hard and do what you are told, the coach does notice. Believe me.

It doesn't matter, you should try hard no matter what, even if no one sees it, or acknowledges what you have accomplished, you know you did the best you could and tried harder than anyone out there and thats all that matters.
